WHAT DO YOU THINK? 06/10/2010
... ABOUT WATER QUALITY? Without a doubt our water needs to be clean enough for us to drink and not harm us - short term or long term. Different things affect different people in different ways and as an individual we always need to be aware of what adversely affects our body. Our technology is amazingly different now versus 50 years ago. We are able to see and detect things we never saw or knew before. This can be good and bad. It is good because we have more knowledge but it can be bad as it identifies some very small things that in our normal lives may not have any affect on most of us. We need to rely on experts to tell us what kind of affects these things will have on us. Having worked for large companies I can tell you that 3M has been very responsible about taking the initiatives and actions to clean the water when they have really done nothing against the law. They were in conformance with regulations 40-50 yrs ago and are now spending a sizable amount of money and effort to clean things up. I think we need to continue to work together to make our water safe to drink. Add Comment WHAT DO YOU THINK? 06/10/2010
I would like this site to be very active with input from everyone in Cottage Grove. What I believe in doesn't matter as much as what the people of Cottage Grove believe and this should be a site where you can tell me and I will can review 20,000 comments on key issues and use that information in my participation and voting on the Council. So please -tell how you feel. South Washington County Bulletin: Longtime planning commissioner seeks Cottage Grove council seat 05/12/2010
![]() Jon Avise with the South Washington County Bulletin wrote a great article telling everyone about my run for Cottage Grove City Council on April 30 2010. I shared some of it here... Dave Thiede broke out the first campaign sign of the season this week — and he was wearing it. Thiede, a member of the planning commission from 2005 until he reached his term limit earlier this year, joins a pair of current commissioners and a past candidate for city council in Cottage Grove’s increasingly crowded city council race, announcing his intentions Monday after being honored for his service to the city. And he did so in a creative manner, pulling off his jacket to reveal a bright yellow shirt with ‘Vote for Dave’ plastered across the back. Thiede, 53, has already launched a campaign website, too — http://www.votefordave.info. In addition to his half-decade on the city’s planning commission, Thiede, 53, has been involved in the city’s comprehensive plan update, the East Ravine Master Plan process, the ongoing Community Center Task Force and the Strawberry Fest Committee. ![]() The Cottage View Drive-In Theater is one of the last of its kind in Minnesota. We are working to preserve it so that folks can continue to enjoy it for decades to come. It won't be in the same location, and we need to find a way to overcome the high cost of the land. One idea I am pursuing involves incorporating the theater into the eventual retail development that will going into that site. What are your ideas? Red Rock Corridor High-Speed Rail Line 05/01/2010
![]() The Red Rock Corridor is a proposed high-speed rail line that would run along the Mississippi River from Saint Paul through Cottage Grove and end in Hastings, with possible extension to Red Wing. From Wikipedia: "The Minnesota Department of Transportation named the Red Rock Corridor among the first tier of the most feasible commuter rail lines in the Twin Cities region. In the time before commuter trains begin operating, planners are looking into using express buses and park-and-ride lots to funnel commuters; these lots could have platforms added and become train stations." My feeling right now is that adding this mass transit option will be a good thing for Cottage Grove. It will make it even easier for people who live here to get to and from work and other activities in St. Paul and Minneapolis, and visa versa. In this way it could be a great economic development driver. We just need to make sure that the development is done in a fiscally responsible manner. Here are a few links if you want to learn more:
This is the first official post on my "Updates from Dave" blog. On April 26, 2010 I was recognized by the Cottage Grove Planning Commission for my five years of service to the group. I had a great time on the Planning Commission! Click here to learn more about what I did while I was there. I took the opportunity at the Planning Commission meeting to let the group and those watching South Washington County TV know about my plans to run for Cottage Grove City Council. I'd love to continue serving you in this new capacity! Watch the video below to see my official campaign launch. |
